Is it possible to read a transation log?

Is it possible to read a transaction log or can they only be used for
restoration purposes?

Yes. There is a third-party product from Lumigent called Log Explorer that
is very good for reading transaction logs. It has a lot of features for
finding transactions and undoing or redoing them.
