Is it possible to recover from failed sp4 installation?

Hi All,
I have a client who last night attempted to install sql 2000 Enterprise
Edition SP4. When running the first time through it got past the Password
Validation and moved to the Analysing and Preparing stage of the
installation. At this point it completely hung - after an hour there was
still no activity.
Now when attempting to re-install SP3a it states that a later version is
already installed and when attempting to reinstall SP4 it hangs on password
validation everytime.
This is a production server, does anyone know if it is possible to recover
from the above scenario?
Thanks
LarryJosh
I have been istalling SP4 mamy times and have never got the situation. Hmmm,
try tirn off (from the network) the server and re-install SP4

I have run into the exact same issue, where SP4 installation hangs on
password validation. It worked for me on number of other servers but it
doesn't work on this server.
I have tried using Windows and SQL Server authentication, sa without
password but it didn't make any difference.
Did anyone find a solution?
The funny thing is that @.@.version shows SP4, however it is Not SP4.
Thanks

Hi all,

I was curious if there any issues that I need to be aware off in attempting to upgrade an existing client database (Sql Server 7 Enterprise Edition) to Sql 2000 Standard edition. During upgrades are we forced to stay with the same editions or can the upgrade to lower level editions.

Thanks
ZeidNot possible, you need to uninstall and re-install SE.
EE is far superior than SE by any means.

Is it possible to build a cluster with two independent sets of hard drives on each server

Hi,
I have two identical servers. I want to put Win 2003 Enterprise and SQL
Server Enterprise on both of them.
The data will be written to and read from the database.
Is it possible to build a cluster with two independent sets of hard drives
on each server (Server1 with his own hard drives in Raid1, and Server2 with
its own hard drives in Raid1)? As I mentioned the data will be written into
the database continuously. I wanted to check that with you guys because I
have looked into some books about clustering and the only configuration
picures I saw were with a shared array of hard drives between cluster nodes.
Thank you for your help.

Is it even possible to Import a flat file into SQL 2005?

Is it possible to import a flat file in 2005? It was simple in 2000. The DTS wizard pops-up when I dragged a file into the enterprise Manager. Nothing like that happens in 2005. HELP!
I'm hoping someone knows of a wizard
I am by no means an expert in SQL or T-SQL.
Thanks is advance
Does the import/export wizard not do what you want?

-Jamie|||Thanks for the reply. Where can I find the import/export wizard in 2005?

If you want to install an additionally Named Instance on your SQL
server, you need the CD. A new instance is more or less to be seen as a
new installation.
If you just want to register an already installed Instance in EM, you
can do it without the CD. Here you just do a new SQL Server registration .

Is getting table-comments out of SQL Server with selects possible?

Hi,
We have used Enterprise Manager to add comments to all our column
definitions. Unfortunately, the only place we can see these comments are in
the windows of Enterprise Manager. We would like to be able to query for
these comments, just like it is possible to query for the names of all
tables and columns from systables, sysobjects, information_schema.tables
etc.
For example
use master
select * from information_schema.columns
So, anyone who can say where our comments are stored (we sure hope they are
stored inside the database in more or less clear text somewhere).
Best regards,
Helge G Solheim, MCSD
Computas
hgs at computasnospam dot comIt is in sysproperties, but the supported measures you find if you search BOL for "extended
properties". For instance the fn_listextendedproperty() function.

Is DBCC shrinkfile faster then the EM equivalent ?

Using SQL 2000 and wanted to know if DBCC shrinkfile executed from QA is
faster than doing the equivalent through Enterprise Manager by selecting the
file and selecting shrink file to <size>
Thank youIts exactly the same code.
