Is it possible to recieve a notification when a subscription fails?
Is it possible to put in "IF ...ELSE" or "Case" in WHERE CLAUSE?
need your help... i am now trying to create a report using SQL reporting services... when declare all the @.parameters needed in where clause, i have come across a problem. where one of the parameters that prompting user to key in...i need to put in some condition.
select..............(blah blah).....
.....(SELECT CASE WHEN
((SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM tbl_OutpatientReg OPT
WHERE OPT.PatientID = tbl_Patient.PatientID)) = 1 THEN 0 ELSE 1 END) AS PTType .....................(blah blah)......
where (CONVERT(Varchar(10), tbl_OutpatientReg.VisitDatetime, 103) BETWEEN @.FromDate AND @.ToDate) OR (@.FromDate = ' ') OR (@.ToDate = ' ')
AND (@.PatientType = CASE WHEN
(SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM tbl_OutpatientReg OPT
WHERE OPT.PatientID = tbl_Patient.PatientID) = 1 THEN 0 ELSE 1 END)
my situition is something like above, i know i have done something wrong in teh WHERE clause for the @.PatientType... can i ask how to restrict the parameters entered by user, let's say if user enter parameter "0", then the visitcount is 1, if enter "1" then the visit count refers to more than 1...
thanks in advanced ...............Your post is kind of confusing regarding requirements, but part of your problem may be due to using brackets where they are not necessary, and not using them where they might be necessary to specify logical operations.
--Your Version:
where (CONVERT(Varchar(10), tbl_OutpatientReg.VisitDatetime, 103) BETWEEN @.FromDate AND @.ToDate)

OR (@.ToDate = ' ')
AND (@.PatientType = CASE
WHEN (SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM tbl_OutpatientReg OPT
WHERE OPT.PatientID = tbl_Patient.PatientID) = 1 THEN 0
ELSE 1
END)
--Unnecessary brackets removed:
where CONVERT(Varchar(10), tbl_OutpatientReg.VisitDatetime, 103) BETWEEN @.FromDate AND @.ToDate
OR @.FromDate = ' '
OR @.ToDate = ' '
AND @.PatientType = CASE
WHEN (SELECT COUNT(*)

Is it possible to prevent user to edit parameters in adress bar?
I have reports in report server which are accessed by url access with parameters.
When the report is generated the whole url string is displayed in the adress bar with parameters. Is there any way to prevent the user to change the parameter value?
Any ider whould be very appreciated!
You could use a html form and use POST instead of using GET via the url.

is it possible to pass a report table column in sql reporting serivces
I am having a storeprocedure which will return 10 columns data and i designed a table with 10 columns and i made 2 columns, visible = false.
Is it possible to show those two columns visible = true at runtime?
Please give me how to do.
Thanks & Regards
Lokesh
Select the column in the report designer, then set the Hidden property under Visibility in the Properties window to an expression. Set that expression to contain the logic you desire.
Hope that helps,

Is it possible to modify Report Builder template ?
I would like to be able to modify the basic report template offered by Report Builder , so as to be able to include custom fields that I would like to be present in every report (Company name , Logo , Date , etc) to achieve consistency in the presentation of the reports created with Report Builder
In Bob's Blog he explained how to include RDL expressions in Report Builder
http://blogs.msdn.com/bobmeyers/archive/2006/03/26/561147.aspx
What I would like to do is to use that technique (if possible) to modify the original template or templates offered by Report Builder to include my own fields.
============================================
I will appreciate some comments or suggestions about other approaches that can be used to address the issue mentioned in the first paragraph .
Thanks in advance ,
George
Just create a report as a template, with all your controls on it, and copy the rdl to this directory:
RS 2005:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\ReportProject
It will show up in your add new item window. I named my report templates Portrait.rdl and Landscape.rdl with the margins set in each. plus i added a table and changed the cell padding and fonts.
For 2000, I think the location is in \program files\sql server... But i can't remember where. You could search your PC for *.rdl
Anyway, there is a file called report.rdl; that is the default one from MS. One caveat, you will have to do this on every machine as the template is on your local PC.

At moment support for templates, styles, and images are not available with report builder. For more information please see: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/technologies/reporting/faq.mspx, http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/aa964121.aspx (Understanding the Product Limitations)
The workaround for this is to have a report (just format) that will be served as template. User will required to open this report (template) then after making the required changes they make copy of the same by doing "Save As" instead of "Save"
Please let me know if you need some more information in this regard.

Is it possible to make a report to fit in 1 page?
Is is possible, when exporting to PDF, to make the report to fit in 1 page?
Thanks
Jaimeset the Report PageSize same as your template PageSize.
This should solve the problem.

When you talk about template page size, you mean:
header height + body height + footer height?
If that is the case, that sum results 8,73229 in. Do I need to increase body
size so that that sum equal 11 in?

(Report.PageWidth - Report.LeftMargin - Report.RightMargin) >= Body.Width.
Thanks!

Is it possible to localize Report Manager using satellite assembly
I'm trying to localize Report Manager (Reporting Services 2005) by
implementing my own Finnish version of the resources in
ReportingServicesWebUserInterface.dll assembly.
I have the satellite assembly in the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.6\Reporting
Services\ReportManager\Bin\fi
I used the Assembly Linker tool (al) to create the assembly and used the
ReportingServicesWebUserInterface.dll in the base directory as the template.
I tried delay signing the assembly using my own key. Then I used the Strong
Name
Utility (sn) to add the assembly to skip verification list.
For some reason my satellite assembly is not loaded when I set my web
browser language to Finnish. If I set it to German it works ok. I have very
little .NET experience by I suspect that is due to the fact that the
sattelite assembly should be signed with the same key as the base assembly?
So is it possible to implement your own language version of the
ReportingServicesWebUserInterface.dll satellite assembly to use it to
localize report manager?
If it is possible is there any document that describes the process and the
related security issues?
If it's not possible then please tell me so that I can make a decision about
developing a new report portal web application. We would like to use the
Report Manager if we only could localize it.
I tried emailing the Gold Certified Partner support address, but got no
answer. Any assitance will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Juho Salo> I tried emailing the Gold Certified Partner support address, but got no
> answer.
Scractch that. They actually called me instead of emailing, but my phone was
not on, stupid I know. I will post the answer here when I get it.
Juho|||I have received a very decisive answer from Microsoft.
Quote:
"You have asked if it is possible to implement your own language version of
the ReportingServicesWebUserInterface.dll satellite assembly to use it to
localize report manager. Unfortunately, this is NOT possible. The Report
Manager resource assemblies MUST be signed with a Microsoft key."
So if anyone else is wondering, if you need to localize Report Manager
easily it's not possible (unless ofcourse you live in one of those
priviledged countries that are provided with localization for it).
I'm off to writing my own report portal application then.|||I actually came up with a solution that is a bit of a hack but will do nicely
and let's me use the Report Manager. Just add the code below to all of the
aspx pages under the Report Manager\Pages folder
<script language=cs runat=server src= "Dictionary.cs"/>
<script language="C#" runat="server">
void Page_LoadComplete(object sender, EventArgs e) {
TranslateControls(Page);
}
private void TranslateControls(Control c)
{
Type t = c.GetType();
System.Reflection.PropertyInfo p = t.GetProperty("Text");
string s;
if (p != null) {
s = (string) p.GetValue(c, null);
if (s!= null ) {
if (s.Length > 0 ) {
if (p.CanWrite)
{
p.SetValue(c, Dictionary.Translate((string) p.GetValue(c, null)), null);
}
}
}
}
foreach (Control child in c.Controls)
{
TranslateControls(child);
}
}
</script>
Then just create some sort of implementation for the Dictionary class in the
Dictionary.cs file. The code above is not the final version but it works.
Comments are welcome.

services installation the default rendering format.
I'm sure there is a list of authorized formats, so I presume there is a
default rendering option.

portal if you want to do that. I recommend against doing this. HTML is much
much faster and having all your reports default to PDF is just not a good
idea.

is it possible to know whether report still executing
i've .net app where display reports from report server using SOAP api.
all works fine. my question is,
i have a export button on my screen to export to different formats.

so our users clicking export button before report is loaded into report viewer control.
is it possible to know whether the report is still being loaded ?

Are you using winforms or webforms?
With the winforms ReportViewer control, you can use the RenderingComplete event.
If you are using webforms, there is no client side event that exposes this information I have not tried, but it might be possible to determine when the page finishes loading using the body onload event.
|||Thanks for that Brian.
Yes , am using a winform with a report viewer control.
i'll give a try using "RenderingComplete" event.
Thanks for your help

i wanted a help from u, how are u uploading files to the reporting server.
i wanted it to programmatically instead of manual upload, all the help from this FORUM i got is that, i should use SOAP API. which i am not able to do it.

|||Thanks Brian
That worked nicely :)
|||Sureshi've not done that part.at the moment all reports created by report builder by our end users. and i just use soap api to load reports .
anyway to help you on this ,you need to give web reference to 2 services. one is for report management and the other one is report execution end points. these references create a proxy class for you in ur project. thats using SOAP api.
see following books online link on how to add web reference

I have a Report Viewer and a Exit button in Web Form. Untill the report is processed i don't want to enable the button.
so Is it possible to know whether report is still executing in report viewer ?
I am using Remote Mode.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Akash
YOu can use the asynchronous methods for rendering the report, if the report did not raise the event of finishing you can be sure that the report is already running.

|||I am using HistoryID to generate the report so i can't use the asynchronous thing.
Below are the lines which are generating the report.
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new Uri(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["ReportServerPath"].ToString());
ReportViewer1.ShowParameterPrompts = false;
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.HistoryId = strHistoryID; -- Assigning HistoryID
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportPath = strReportPath;
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.Refresh();
Report is rendering asynchronously from the rest of the web page.(i.e. Report Viewer AsyncRendering attribute is set to true)
Is it possible to keep the page header at top of browser page with drill enabled?
at the point where I start (click) the drill. Everything above the
click-point is above and I have to scroll up to see it. Is there a way
to keep the heading visible on a report using drill?RS 2005 will provide floating headers on table or matrix which may be close
to what you are looking for. For RS 2000 I can't think of anything that
would do it - unless you try to write your own "report viewing" application
which shows the required context information outside the boundaries where
you show the report contents.

Is it possible to join the fields value together?
FieldA
---
name1
name2
name3
Now, i want to join them together like this : "name1, name2, name3". I try to use the function join(list, delimiter) but fail. It seem that i should get all the data in place them in a array.
How can I do this? Thanks!!!!!check if this is possible
{database.name1}+{database.name2}+{database.name3}|||Thanks for your reply
However, in my case, all the data which is inside the same field.
For example:
Table1.field1
------
Record 1) A
Record 2) B
Record 3) C
I want to join them to "A, B, C" and display in the report
Anyone know how to do? Thanks!!!|||What groups these 3 records together, so that you know they are related? e.g. so that "A, B, C" comes out on a separate line to "D, E, F".
Group on this, and create 3 formulas:
@.init (in the suppressed group header)
whileprintingrecords;
stringvar group_list := "";
@.add (in the suppressed details)
whileprintingrecords;
stringvar group_list;
if group_list <> "" then group_list := group_list + ", ";
group_list := group_list + {table.field};
@.display (in the group footer)
whileprintingrecords;
stringvar group_list

IS it possible to insert a blank line in my report
Hello,
I my dataset is like following
sql:
select quarter, sum(amount) as amount from table1 group by quarter
then I get the dataset
field: quarter,amount
date: quarter1,100
quarter2,500
Is it possible to get my report from the dataset above.
my report:
quarter,amount
quarter1,100
quarter2,500
quarter3,0
quarter4,0
thanks!This is possible if you have a time (or quarter) table in your database:
SELECT
q.quarter,
ISNULL(t1.amount,0) as amount
FROM quarters q
LEFT JOIN table1 t1
ON q.quarter = t1.quarter
|||
thank you for reply
I can't get the tabe quarters ...
|||Use this SQL:
SELECT
q.quarter,
ISNULL(t1.amount,0) as amount
FROM quarters q LEFT JOIN
(SELECT 'quarter1' AS quarter UNION SELECT 'quarter2' AS quarter UNION SELECT 'quarter3' AS quarter UNION SELECT 'quarter4' AS quarter) AS qrt
ON quarters.quarter = qrt.quarter
This will work.

In order to more easily manage date groupings (weeks, months, quarters, years, etc.) it is a VERY good idea to have a Calendar table in your database. Having a Calendar table makes tasks such as this one very simple.
Here is additional information about creating and using a Calendar table.

Is it possible to hide the report parameters after click on the view report button?
after selecting all the report paramters and click on the view report
button, i need to turn off or hide the report parameters.
please let me know is it possible to implement to do this.
any suggesstion
Thanks
VinodThere is a button the right side of the page of the reports browser
that look like to arrows on top of each other, click that and it will
hide the parameters. There are actually two sets, one for the
parameters and one for the web page header. Hope that helps.

i have seen the hide button icon in the report layout.but my
requirement is that i need to hide the parameters when i click on the
view report button in the report layout after selecting the all the
report parameters.
if user wants to modify the criteria again, he needs to click on the
hide icon in the report layout. then select the criteria and view the
report.
please let me know if you are not clear
Thanks

thinking that if you can modify the View Report button's code, you could add
a java script that redirects to a url with parameters toolbar=false and the
chosen parameters. You'd have to tweek the RS GUI to do it, and I don't know
how easy that is.
Alternatively, create a aspx. page that creates the parameters to be chosen,
and send the users to a report using the same paramtererized url as
suggested above.

Is it possible to hide a field or fields based on User Groups?
I have a report that has a few sensitive fields and would only like to show them to a certain AD group.
Is this possible?
Hi,
sure this is possible through custom .NET code. Implement your own Active Driectory checking class and use that within reporting Services. Based on this class you can make the textbox Visible or Hidden.
